Thirty jobs will be created when the second Flamingo café bar opens for business in Dorset.
Owners Aviary Hospitality have confirmed that planning permission has been granted for its new Sea Road location in Boscombe Spa. More than £300,000 is being invested in the venture which is set to open next month.
The Miami-inspired all-day café bar concept debuted in Bournemouth’s Winton two years ago and proved an immediate hit. It is open from 9am to late every day, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and cocktails. The café bar prides itself on working with local suppliers including Webster Family Butchers, BigWigs Bakery, Woods Fish, Fluffetts Farm and Bad Hand Coffee.
The Sea Road site previously operated as James & White and Reef Encounter. Dorset Biz News reported in January that Aviary Hospitality had acquired James & White Group and its two restaurants in Sea Road and also Church Street, Christchurch.
The Christchurch site reopened as Chicken & Blues – another Aviary Hospitality brand – in March. It was the third C&B restaurant with other sites in Bournemouth (Winton) and Poole (Ashley Cross).
The planning permission for Flamingo Boscombe Spa includes an enclosed structure over the roadside terrace with an electric roof. Guests will be able to use the space from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week. Benefiting from perimeter glass with sea views, the area will be heated throughout the winter and air conditioned in the summer, enabling year-round use.
Joshua Simons, Co-Founder of Aviary Hospitality, said: “We’d like to thank the council for their support in granting permissions, and to the many residents that have already been in touch to let us know how excited they are that Flamingo is headed to Boscombe Spa. We’re proud to be opening our second location at this quite iconic site, just a stone’s throw from the beach. We’re building a fantastic team in time for our scheduled pre-summer opening and look forward to welcoming everyone.”
Flamingo was named joint Gold winner of the Café/Tearoom Award at the 2022 DMB Tourism Awards.
